Ginger is the key to high-yield fertilization

<

During the entire growth cycle of ginger, nutrient requirements change depending on the stage. In the early seedling phase, the demand for nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium is relatively low. However, once the plant enters the long-term growth phase, phosphorus absorption increases gradually, while the need for nitrogen and potassium rises significantly. Therefore, effective fertilization should be tailored to the specific growth stages of ginger. 1. **Apply Base Fertilizer**: Since ginger primarily requires nutrients in the middle and later stages of growth, applying a rich base fertilizer is crucial for high yield. Before planting, mix 500–600 kg of chicken manure with high-quality compost per acre. Additionally, apply 75–100 kg of cake fertilizer, along with 50 kg of NPK fertilizer or 15 kg of urea, 30 kg of superphosphate, and 20 kg of potassium sulfate per acre. For soils lacking trace elements, add 1–2 kg of zinc sulfate and 0.5–1 kg of borax (0.05–0.1%) per mu of base fertilizer. 2. **Apply "Strong Seedling Fertilizer"**: During the seedling stage, plants are small and require less fertilizer, but they have a long growing period. To promote healthy growth, apply a top-dressing when the seedlings reach about 30 cm in height and develop 1–2 branches. This fertilizer should mainly consist of nitrogen, such as 20 kg of ammonium sulfate or diammonium phosphate per acre. If the sowing date is too early, this can be applied 2–3 times in combination with irrigation. 3. **Re-apply "Fork Fertilizer"**: As autumn approaches, ginger enters a critical growth transition phase, where growth accelerates and nutrient accumulation begins. To support this, apply a second round of organic-based fertilizer during weeding and soil cultivation. Use 60–80 kg of crushed cake fertilizer, 250–300 kg of decomposed chicken manure, and 50–80 kg of compound fertilizer or 10 kg of urea, 25 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 25 kg of potassium sulfate per acre. Dig small trenches near the plants, apply the fertilizer, cover with soil, and water thoroughly. 4. **Apply "Inflated Fertilizer"**: When the plant has 6–8 branches (around the White Dew to Autumn Equinox), it enters the rapid rhizome expansion phase. At this point, a strong fertilizer application is needed. Typically, 25–30 kg of compound fertilizer or 2–3 kg each of ammonium sulfate and potassium sulfate per acre is recommended. For well-fertilized soils with vigorous growth, avoid excessive nitrogen to prevent excessive leaf growth that could hinder rhizome development. 5. **Apply Foliar Fertilizer**: For soils deficient in boron, zinc, or other micronutrients, foliar sprays can be applied during the seedling stage, splitting period, and rhizome enlargement phase. A solution containing 1–2 kg of zinc sulfate and 0.05–1 kg of borax per acre is recommended to ensure balanced nutrition and optimal growth.
