To ensure high-quality and high-yield tea, several measures must be taken beyond traditional practices. In addition to using green manure, mulching for moisture retention, applying farmyard manure after harvest, and refining the tea-making process, the smart use of foliar fertilizers is also essential. This method is fast, efficient, and effective, typically boosting production by 20% to 30%. The technique involves timing the application correctly. During the spring, summer, and autumn flushes, when new shoots appear with one bud and one leaf, foliar fertilization should be carried out. It's best done on windless, sunny days or during cloudy afternoons, with 2 to 3 sprays per week. The fertilizer should be evenly applied to the surface of the leaves. The nutrient ratio is crucial. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are the primary components, with trace elements added based on the specific needs of the tea plants. A common ratio is 4:1:1, but micronutrients are adjusted according to what the plants lack. Fertilizer concentration depends on the type of fertilizer and environmental conditions. For example, urea is usually applied at 0.5%, calcium superphosphate at 1%, potassium sulfate at 0.5%, zinc sulfate at 50–100 ppm, and iron molybdate at 20–50 ppm. Too high a concentration can cause leaf burn, while too low a concentration may not yield results. Combining foliar fertilization with other practices such as pest control, irrigation, and plant growth regulators can save time and labor, making the process more efficient and easier to mechanize. It’s also important to consider the chemical compatibility between fertilizers and pesticides. Acidic fertilizers should be mixed with acidic pesticides, and alkaline fertilizers with alkaline ones to avoid harmful reactions or precipitation that could reduce effectiveness. Using biological pesticides for pest control is an eco-friendly and safe option. Products like Bt emulsion, *Bacillus* species, *Beauveria bassiana*, agricultural antibiotics, and plant-based antibiotics offer a low-cost, high-impact solution that is both effective and environmentally friendly. This approach helps maintain the quality and safety of the tea while supporting sustainable farming practices.
