The colorful literary bird, also known as the multi-colored bird or the phoenix bird, is a stunning avian species with vibrant and dazzling plumage. It has become one of the most sought-after high-end ornamental birds in the country due to its beauty and rarity. Known for its gentle and melodious calls, this bird comes in three main head color varieties: red-headed, black-headed, and yellow-headed. Among these, the red-headed variant is the most common, while the black-headed and yellow-headed ones are considered rarer and more valuable in the market. In international trade, black-headed birds are regarded as top-grade specimens due to their limited numbers, and yellow-headed birds are even more prized. To successfully keep and breed these beautiful creatures, proper care and attention are essential. Here are some key cultivation techniques: First, temperature control is crucial for the growth of the colorful bird. The ideal temperature range for its development is around 20°C. During winter, it's important to maintain a temperature above 15°C, as exposure to colder conditions can cause illness or stunted growth. If the temperature drops below 10°C or fluctuates significantly, the bird may fall sick or even die. In summer, the temperature should be kept below 28°C. If it exceeds 35°C, the bird is at risk of heatstroke and death. Second, feeding is another critical aspect of their care. A balanced diet can be prepared using a weight ratio of 7 parts dumplings, 2 parts millet, and 1 part sub (a type of seed or supplement). The fat content in the dumplings helps the bird stay warm during cold weather, but it should not be used long-term. A standard feed mixture is usually 8 parts dumplings to 2 parts millet, with small amounts of fresh vegetables, oyster flour, or cuttlefish bone added for nutrition. Before breeding and during the moulting period, egg millet should be provided, and feeding should be stopped after the eggs hatch. Chicks should be fed egg millet before they start eating on their own. It’s important to ensure that the food remains fresh and free from mold or spoilage. Third, breeding these birds can be challenging. They have weak reproductive abilities, and hatching success rates are often low. Sometimes, newly hatched nestlings are abandoned by their parents or startled away. To increase survival chances, it's recommended to use a "10 sisters" method, where multiple females are paired with one male. This increases the likelihood of successful incubation and allows for better care through shared responsibility. The incubation period typically lasts about 17 days. Nestlings begin to leave the nest around 20 days after hatching and become fully independent after about 50 days. Keeping them with their parents for longer periods greatly benefits their development and social learning. Lastly, hygiene and environmental management are vital. The birdcage should be cleaned daily, including removing droppings, cleaning water dispensers, utensils, sand boxes, and nesting pots. Regular disinfection is necessary to ensure that water, food, and sand remain clean and fresh. During summer and autumn, it's important to prevent pests like flies and mosquitoes, and protect the birds from strong winds. In hot weather, avoid direct sunlight, and during rainy seasons, keep them dry and sheltered. The living environment should be quiet and well-ventilated, away from drafts and disturbances. By following these guidelines, bird enthusiasts can provide optimal care for these rare and beautiful creatures, ensuring their health, happiness, and longevity.
