Broiler keeps warm and forgets ventilation

<

When keeping broilers warm, it's essential not to overlook the importance of proper ventilation. Broilers produce a significant amount of carbon dioxide, and their manure can release harmful gases like ammonia, especially under high temperatures. If these gases are not removed in a timely manner, the air inside the poultry house can become polluted, leading to breathing difficulties for both the birds and the people working there. These gases can directly irritate the respiratory system, negatively affecting the health and growth of the flock. Proper ventilation also helps in removing dust from the house, which is crucial for maintaining good air quality and preventing respiratory diseases. During the first few days of brooding, the house is usually kept closed to maintain warmth. Ventilation should begin around day 6 and gradually increase as the birds grow older, ensuring that there is sufficient oxygen available. When ventilating, pay close attention to wind direction and speed to avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature changes that could stress the birds and lead to upper respiratory infections. It's important to maintain a stable temperature inside the house and avoid large fluctuations that may cause discomfort or stress. For poultry houses with a span of 7 meters or less, natural ventilation is typically sufficient. The bottom edge of the vents should be placed at least 1.2 meters above the back of the chickens to ensure effective airflow. For houses wider than 7 meters, mechanical ventilation may be necessary to maintain air quality. To prevent ammonia buildup, the house should be kept as dry as possible. Ensure that there are no leaks in the water troughs and that the litter remains dry. If high humidity is detected, increasing ventilation or removing wet litter and waste can help. Ammonia odor removers can also be used to reduce the concentration of ammonia in the air, creating a healthier environment for the broilers.
