Flower cultivation techniques

<

This flower is a beloved ingredient among our local people, appreciated both for its beauty and its utility in greenery. Many residents here enjoy using wolfberry flowers to brew medicinal wines. It is commonly believed that drinking this wine can help treat heart conditions, improve circulation, and leave one feeling more at ease. While the health benefits may still need scientific confirmation, the taste of this wine is undeniably excellent and not misleading at all. Wolfberry flowers can be grown in pots or in garden plots. For winemaking purposes, they are often cultivated in Daejeon. Since two pods can produce about one jin (approximately 0.5 kg) of flower wine, large-scale production is necessary for commercial use. Here's how we cultivate them: 1. **Site Preparation in Daejeon**: We use a no-tillage method for planting. First, large weeds are removed or cut down, and proper drainage ditches are dug. The planting area is then opened up to about 80 cm wide. A layer of dry oil is evenly applied to each plot. Once the oil has dried, soil from the ditches is used to cover it, and the seedlings are planted. 2. **Planting**: The seedlings are spaced about 50-70 cm apart. Before planting, they should be exposed to sunlight to heal any wounds and avoid excessive moisture. After planting, it's best not to water them immediately—wait until new shoots appear and the plants are established. 3. **Fertilization and Water Management**: In open-field cultivation, fertilization plays a crucial role. Early on, nitrogen-rich fertilizer should be applied, while in the middle and later stages, phosphorus and potassium should be used in moderation to ensure high-quality blooms. Watering should be based on soil moisture levels. Normally, irrigation is done when the soil reaches 50% moisture. During the dry winter months, proper watering helps the plants grow stronger and healthier. 4. **Harvesting**: With proper care and timely watering and fertilizing, three harvests of flowers can be obtained each year. It's best to pick the flowers when they're fully open. This ensures the wine is rich in flavor and aroma, offering a refreshing and pleasant experience. 5. **Pest and Disease Control**: Wolfberry flowers are relatively resistant to pests and diseases, so chemical treatments are rarely needed. This makes the cultivation process more natural and environmentally friendly. Overall, growing and using wolfberry flowers for wine is not only practical but also beneficial for both health and enjoyment. Whether you're a small grower or looking to scale up, this plant offers a unique blend of beauty, function, and flavor.
