Flower cultivation techniques

<

This flower is a beloved ingredient among our local people, valued both for its beauty and its health benefits. It's commonly used in ornamental gardening and as a greenery plant. Many residents here also enjoy using wolfberry flowers to make medicinal wines. It's claimed that drinking this wine can help with heart disease, improve circulation, and make people feel more comfortable. While the health benefits should be verified, the taste of the wine is undeniably excellent and not misleading at all. These flowers can be grown in pots or in garden plots. For winemaking purposes, they are often cultivated in Daejeon. Since two pods can produce one jin (about 0.5 kg) of huahua wine, large-scale cultivation is necessary for mass production. Here’s how we cultivate them: 1. **Site Preparation in Daejeon**: We use a no-till method for planting. First, we remove large weeds from the area and dig good drainage ditches. The planting beds are made 80 cm wide. After preparing the soil, we apply dry oil evenly across each bed. Once the oil has dried, we cover it with soil collected from the ditches and then plant the seedlings. 2. **Planting**: The seedlings are planted at a spacing of 50-70 cm. Before planting, we allow the roots to air-dry slightly to prevent rotting. It's best not to water the plants immediately after planting. Watering should only begin once new shoots appear and the plants are established. 3. **Fertilization and Water Management**: In open-field cultivation, proper fertilization is essential. Early on, we apply nitrogen-rich fertilizer, and later, we add phosphorus and potassium to ensure high-quality flowers. Watering should be based on soil moisture levels—irrigation is needed when the soil is about 50% moist. In our region, winters tend to be dry, so maintaining proper soil moisture with mulch helps the plants grow better. 4. **Harvesting**: With proper care and timely watering and fertilizing, three harvests of blossoms can be obtained annually. The best time to harvest is when the flowers are fully open. Using freshly harvested blooms ensures the wine is aromatic, flavorful, and refreshing. 5. **Pest and Disease Control**: These flowers are relatively resistant to pests and diseases, so there's usually no need for chemical treatments. This makes the cultivation process more natural and sustainable. By following these steps, farmers can successfully grow and utilize wolfberry flowers for both ornamental and medicinal purposes, while also producing a delicious and beneficial wine.
