Do not put loach in the breeding pond

<

In aquaculture ponds, a certain number of loaches can be introduced to help remove leftover feed from the yellow buckwheat, which in turn helps purify the water and increase dissolved oxygen levels. However, when loaches are bred in the same pond as Astragalus (likely referring to *Astragalus sinensis* or a similar aquatic plant), they can cause significant damage, mainly in three key ways: First, loaches are opportunistic feeders that consume a wide range of organic matter, including mud, aquatic insects, algae, young aquatic plants, organic detritus, and various microorganisms. These food sources closely resemble the artificial feeds provided to Astragalus, and loaches tend to be very aggressive eaters, often consuming food much faster than the intended species. During feeding times, the loaches are quick to grab the food, leaving little for the Astragalus. If feeding is repeated without proper timing, it not only increases labor but can also lead to periods of starvation, negatively affecting reproduction. Second, the presence of loaches disrupts the natural behavior of Astragalus. Loaches are constantly moving in search of food, which creates unnecessary disturbance in the pond. Astragalus, on the other hand, prefers calm and stable conditions, especially during breeding seasons when they seek quiet areas to lay eggs. The constant movement and activity of loaches can make the oysters feel stressed, leading to poor egg-laying performance. In addition, loaches may accidentally eat or destroy the eggs laid by Astragalus, further reducing reproductive success. Third, loaches have a tendency to swallow the eggs and seedlings of Astragalus. After laying their eggs, female loaches leave the nest, and the fry protect the eggs until they hatch. However, if the pond contains loaches, they may not only disturb the nesting area but also actively consume the eggs or young seedlings, significantly reducing the survival rate of the next generation. This behavior can severely impact the population and growth of Astragalus in the long run. By introducing loaches into the same environment as Astragalus, aquaculturists risk creating an imbalance that harms the target species rather than supporting it. Careful management and separation of species are essential to ensure both ecological balance and successful cultivation.
