The technical mode of holding cages in cages

<

The majority of yellow fin individuals available in the market today are wild-caught. From November to March, yellow crickets hibernate, causing a significant drop in supply and a sharp decline in prices—often several times lower than during peak seasons. This creates an opportunity for those who can acquire them at a low cost during the high season and raise them through the off-season for profit. With proper management, the net profit per square meter can reach up to 100 yuan. The controlled environment in cages ensures sufficient oxygen, promoting faster growth and higher yields. Additionally, these fish can be harvested and sold anytime during winter, making this method one of the most efficient approaches to raising Astragalus. First, setting up the cages: Use polyethylene mesh with a 36-mesh size to construct rectangular cages measuring 20-30 square meters. Standard dimensions include 8m x 3m x 1.2m or 10m x 3m x 1.5m. These cages should be open-type, with mesh on the sides to prevent escape. Place the cages in a fish pond with a depth of at least 1.5 meters, where water clarity is between 25-30 cm. Position the cages 7-10 days before introducing the fish. The bottom of the cage should be 0.5 meters above the pond floor, while the top should be 0.4 meters above the water surface. The total cage area should not exceed 1/10 of the pond’s size. Inside each cage, fill 80-90% of the space with floating peanuts to provide shelter for the yellow fins. Without this, the pupae may tangle, leading to illness and death. Also, introduce 3-5 kg of loach into each cage; they help prevent entanglement by moving around. Second, harvesting and stocking: Wild yellow fins are collected using methods like trap fishing, hand-capturing, or netting. Only healthy specimens should be selected—those with severe injuries are unsuitable for farming. Before placing them in the cages, soak the fish in a 3-4% saltwater solution for 5-10 minutes. Avoid using fish that appear weak or have pelvic injuries. Each square meter of the cage should hold 1.5-2 kg of seedlings weighing over 50 grams. Third, feeding and management: 1. **Feeding**: The main diet consists of alfalfa, fly larvae, snail meat, small fish, and animal organs, supplemented with wheat flour, corn flour, and bean cake, along with some leaves and trace minerals. Mix fresh live ingredients with wheat flour, jade powder, leaves, and vitamins to create a dough-like texture. Then press it into strips of 3-4 mm in diameter and 3-4 cm in length. Dry the bait before feeding. Initially, no food is given to the seedlings for the first three days. Afterward, feed them oyster meat or snail meat. The daily feeding rate is 1-2%, gradually increasing as the fish grow. When the water temperature is between 20-28°C, the maximum feeding rate is 5-8%, with live animals as the primary food. During other seasons, the rate drops to 3-4% and 1-2%, respectively. Bait is placed on a wooden tray covered with mesh cloth (0.6m x 0.4m x 0.1m), fixed 20 cm below the water surface. Feeding typically begins in the early evening and shifts to 5 PM as the fish become more active. During the growing season, feeding starts at 9 AM. 2. **Disease prevention**: Monitor the fish daily and remove any sick individuals immediately. Apply potassium permanganate solution once a day to keep the water slightly pink. Every 10-15 days, hang bleaching powder bags (100g each) in the cage—2-3 per box—to disinfect the water. Additionally, add low concentrations of oxytetracycline to the bait, about 50 mg per kilogram of fish daily, to enhance growth and reduce disease risk. Clean the cages monthly and adjust stocking density based on fish size. 3. **Pest control**: Rats are the biggest threat to the cages, often breaking through and causing escapes. To deter them, place bunches of long hair around the cage perimeter—this has proven effective in reducing rodent activity.
