Three ways to handle pig feed

<

Acidification is an essential practice to address the digestive issues that often occur in weaned piglets due to low stomach acidity. To improve digestion, feed can be acidified by adding 1% to 3% citric or lactic acid to either the drinking water or the feed itself. This helps lower the pH of the feed to around 5, creating a more favorable environment for digestion. Additionally, adding 0.3% pepsin preparation to the feed can further enhance digestion and reduce the growth of harmful bacteria in the gut. Fermentation processing is another effective technique. A mixture containing 50 grams each of baking soda, sweet melon, jellyfish powder, and spicy wolfberry, along with 3 bags of Liuyi San, 5 grams of tea, 250 grams of Guanzhong, yam, wolfberry, and dried tangerine peel, and 500 grams of glucose is ground and mixed thoroughly. Then, 5 egg whites and 6 kg of fine rice bran are added, and the mixture is well combined. Water is gradually added until the mixture forms a compact mass when pressed in the hand (with a moisture content of approximately 65%). The material is then placed into a container, compacted, and kept at a temperature between 35°C and 45°C. In colder weather, it should be covered with plastic film for insulation. After three days, if the mixture turns yellow and emits a strong sweet apple-like aroma, it is ready to be used as a homemade "medicinal seed." Once prepared, this fermented product is mixed with 40% roughage powder, 10% wheat bran, 2% bone meal, 2% fishmeal, 45% corn, and one bag of compound feed additives (containing trace elements) for every 50 kg of feed. Add 150 g of the "medicinal seed" and 50 kg of clean water, ensuring the temperature and humidity match those of the fermented material. Place the feed in a container and allow it to ferment for 24 hours. When a strong apple-like aroma is detected, it is ready for use. Feed the pigs four times daily, offering 2–3 kg per feeding, and provide fresh green, succulent feed after each meal to support digestion and overall health. Saccharification of starch-rich concentrates like corn, barley, and sorghum can also improve feed quality. By converting some of the starch into maltose, the feed becomes more palatable and easier to digest. Crush the concentrate and place it in a container. Pour hot water (80°C to 90°C) over it twice its volume, stirring until a paste forms. To maintain the temperature, cover the top with a 5 cm layer of dry material and secure it with a wooden lid or plastic film. Keep the temperature around 55°C to 60°C for about 3–4 hours. Once saccharified, the feed should be used within 14 hours to prevent spoilage. It should be fed promptly to ensure optimal nutritional value and safety.
