Going out of the misunderstanding of geese

<

Geese are naturally resilient birds, and local breeds are often the best choice for farming. In China, there are numerous goose varieties, each with different adaptability and productivity levels. However, the current market for goose breeders is quite confusing, with many claims being exaggerated. When selecting geese, farmers should prioritize adaptability first, then consider production performance, and finally take into account the purpose of raising them. It's often said that "a goose farmer with a cloud has clear water and fat geese." This means that clean water and good grazing areas are essential for healthy geese. Unfortunately, some farms lack proper facilities—geese are overcrowded, their feathers are dirty, and they have no access to water for bathing. Some claim that certain advanced goose breeds don't need water, but this is only true for large-scale operations with controlled environments. Most small farmers don’t have such resources, especially access to clean, living water. Many farmers mistakenly believe that grazing means feeding only ryegrass. At one particular farm, the geese were thin, had poor feather development, and looked unattractive because they were fed only ryegrass. No single plant can provide all the nutrients an animal needs. A balanced diet should include a mix of grasses like chicory, bitter leeks, alfalfa, clover, and leafy vegetables such as squash or hawthorn vines. Mixing grasses and legumes ensures better nutrition and healthier geese. Geese are known for their strong immunity and disease resistance, making them one of the hardiest poultry species. However, in modern intensive farming systems, where the focus is on rapid growth and high egg production, their natural resilience is often compromised. To maintain their health, it’s crucial to create a suitable environment, provide proper feed, and implement effective vaccination programs. Some farmers keep ducks and geese together, thinking it helps prevent diseases. But this is not always true. Ducks are more susceptible to illness, while geese have stronger resistance. Keeping them together can actually increase the risk of disease transmission rather than reduce it. It's better to manage them separately to ensure the health of both species.
