In recent years, in the rapeseed production areas in Anhui and even in the whole country, the popularization and application of a new hybrid rapeseed variety with high yield and good quality has greatly promoted the significant increase in the planting efficiency of rapeseed. The advent of these new hybrid rapeseed varieties can not be separated from the technical support called “the selection and breeding methods of the recessive upper-nuclear sterile sterility of Brassica napus”. The research and development personnel who developed this high-tech achievement are the rapeseed researchers of the Crop Research Institute of Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences. At the National Science and Technology Awards Presentation Ceremony 2007, this achievement of the Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences won the second prize for national technology invention. This achievement was highly evaluated by the Ministry of Science and Technology as "solving the world's problems in hybrid rapeseed selection and seed production techniques."

The project’s chief expert, Professor Chen Fengxiang, told the author that the first hybrid rapeseed variety “Qinyou 2” in China was successfully bred in the mid-1980s. After being popular in the country for a few years, the high yield could not be combined with high quality. The reason that the promotion of the area has slowly started to decline since 1991.

How to make hybrid rapes both high yield and high quality? Chen Fengxiang led the researchers in the oil research lab to take aim in this direction. In 1993, they discovered "abnormal" data from the genetic mechanism of hybrid rapeseed. In this way, a new hybrid hypothetical "hybrid upper genetic hypothesis of male rape" was born, and based on this, it created a set of safe and efficient. Hybrid rape breeding system effectively solved the contradiction between high yield and high quality of hybrid rapeseed.

In the following ten years, Chen Fengxiang and his research team used this efficient breeding and seed production method to breed six new varieties of hybrid rape such as eucalyptus 14, eucalyptus 18, eucalyptus 22, eucalyptus 25, and so on. Among them, 4 varieties passed the national examination and approval, and Suiyou 14 won the first prize of science and technology in Anhui Province, and became one of the six high-quality varieties that the Ministry of Agriculture focused on. The production of these varieties has grown more than twice as much as that of other domestic hybrid rapeseeds, the yield of field crops has increased by about 10%, the rapeseed oil content has reached more than 40%, and the seed production has high purity, safety and stability, strong resistance to disease (resistance), and obvious advantages. In 2007, more than ten million provinces and cities across the country have cumulatively promoted nearly 40 million mu, and farmers have increased their income by more than 2.2 billion yuan. Among them, more than 3700 acres have been promoted in Anhui Province. Experts from Anhui Provincial Agriculture Commission believe that with the promotion and application of the invention, a large number of breakthrough hybrid rapeseed varieties will be produced, which will significantly increase the competitiveness of China's hybrid rapeseed industry.
