The reporter learned from the Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries that last year our province’s aquatic products exports increased significantly, while imports decreased due to the reduction of fishmeal, showing a surplus in the international trade of aquatic products. According to statistics, in 2010, the total import and export trade volume of aquatic products in our province reached 892,300 tons and the total amount was 3.286 billion US dollars, which was an increase of -0.7% and 56.84% respectively compared with the same period of last year. The import volume was 365,900 tons, amounting to US$604 million, an increase of -43.01% and 9.02% year-on-year, and the export volume was 526,300 tons, amounting to US$2.682 billion, a year-on-year increase of 39.78% and 74.04%, respectively.

The formal implementation of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area in 2010 and the signing and implementation of the cross-strait ECFA greatly promoted the export of aquatic products in Fujian. Among them, the largest increase was in exports to Taiwan, which amounted to 61,700 tons and 464 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 47.96% and 87.86%. Trout, large yellow croaker, shrimps, crabs, cephalopods, and shellfish are still export-oriented products. Deep-processed products account for more than 80% of export earnings, and the average annual export price of aquatic products is 5,096 yuan per ton, compared with the previous year.
