Some time ago when the Chinese people were busy rushing to buy salt, people in many parts of Poland were busy rushing to buy white sugar. This wave of buying was caused by rising sugar prices in the country.

According to Polish media reports, the price of white sugar in Poland is currently the most expensive in all EU countries, reaching a maximum of approximately 1.7 euros per kilogram (about 15.7 yuan). In other countries, such as the Netherlands, Spain, the price of sugar per kilogram will not exceed 1 euro. In Germany, which is adjacent to Poland, sugar prices are even lower, at less than 0.7 euros per kilogram. When the Polish Prime Minister Tusk visited the city near the German city in western Poland recently, he was also asked by reporters to take the opportunity to go to Germany and buy some white sugar. Tusk's answer is, of course, negative. However, due to high domestic sugar prices, many Poles have indeed bought white sugar in Germany or the Czech Republic. In addition, due to fears that the price of sugar will rise further, many residents of Poland began to snap up and stock up on the necessities of life, and some supermarkets even once appeared to be out of stock.

The reason why the price of white sugar in Poland remains high and triggered a wave of buying, experts believe that mainly due to the EU and speculators. On the one hand, the EU imposes quotas on the production of sugar in various member states. According to the regulations, Poland can only produce 1.4 million tons of white sugar each year, but the country's annual consumption of white sugar has reached 1.6 million tons. The insufficient part can only be solved through imports. On the other hand, some speculators see a good "business opportunity" for the shortage of white sugar in Poland, so they will buy a lot, hoard it, and wait until the price rises. The Polish Minister of Agriculture stated that the situation of soaring sugar prices in Poland has been very serious. The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing to negotiate with the Polish Council for Protection of Competition and Consumer Rights to discuss ways to solve this problem.
