U.S. cultivates low-tolerance tomatoes

<

Tomatoes are very popular vegetables for the people. However, the tomato fruit strain is not hardy during the growth period, and one night of frost will cause it to die. If it is affected by the cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) during growth, the plants will often turn brown and eventually die. Scientists at the Oklahoma Agricultural Research Institute in the United States have discovered a way to make tomatoes not only immune to CMV but also to low temperatures. In general, apoptotic cells triggered by parasites associated with the same form of CMV virus, or prearranged cell death, is a natural process that causes cells to commit suicide for various reasons. Studies have shown that by inserting specific genes from humans or worms into tomato plants, tomatoes resistant to the parasites can be grown. The inserted genes can produce a variety of proteins that are resistant to early apoptosis and allow the CMV virus to become Harmless virus. Genetically modified tomatoes also have better anti-low temperature climate characteristics than naturally grown tomatoes.
