Broiler 50-day slaughter technique

<

The efficient marketing of broilers and the reduction of the feeding cycle are essential strategies to enhance economic returns in poultry farming. To achieve this, proper feeding and management practices must be implemented from the very beginning. Chicks should be fed within 8 to 12 hours after hatching. A starter feed formula can include: 65% cornmeal, 15% wheat bran, 15% chopped wheat, 5% soybean meal, along with 3 cooked eggs for every 100 chicks. Adding 0.4% oxytetracycline and a small amount of brown sugar is also beneficial. Multivitamins can be included as needed. For the first 5 to 8 days, a different feed mixture may be used: 3 parts of ground rice, 1 part of soybean meal, 0.1 part of sunflower seed cake, 0.02 part salt, and appropriate amounts of oxytetracycline and multivitamins. It’s best to provide water before food. The first drink should be either 0.01% potassium permanganate solution or 10% sugar water. For the first 15 days, warm water is ideal, and it must be clean and free of impurities. Temperature control is crucial during the early stages. The temperature should be maintained at 34°C for the first 4 days, then reduced to 32°C between day 5 and 7. After that, it should decrease by 2°C each week until reaching 20°C. Humidity should be kept at 65–70% for the first two weeks and 55–60% thereafter. Feeding density should be around 40–25 chickens per square meter for the first two weeks and 25–15 for weeks 3–4. Lighting should be provided for 23 hours daily, with one hour of darkness at night to promote rest and growth. Vaccination is also important. At 1–3 days old, a subcutaneous injection of a large chicken virus vaccine (excluding Marek’s disease) should be administered. At 7–10 days, eye drops for chicken lice should be given, and the treatment should be repeated at 30 days. As the chickens grow to about 1 kg, they should be grouped based on age, size, and health. The soybean meal in the feed can be adjusted to 0.8 parts, while reducing the use of multivitamins and eliminating oxytetracycline. To improve meat quality and marketability, several fattening methods can be applied. First, pork bone soup can be added to the feed approximately 10 days before sale to help detoxify the birds. Second, oil can be introduced into the feed starting at 4 weeks of age, gradually increasing to 6–8%. Third, methionine can be added at 0.14% in the feed. For herbal supplements, a summer formula includes 12% pepper, 23% licorice, 7% fennel, 28% Wujiapi, and 12% iron sulfate. In winter, the mix changes to 24% ginger powder, 50% cinnamon, 9% gentian, 8% fennel, and 9% iron sulfate. Once the herbs are ground into a powder, they should be mixed into the feed and given at a rate of 0.5–1 gram per chicken every other day. By following these detailed feeding and management strategies, farmers can significantly improve the growth rate, health, and profitability of their broiler production.
