Introduced to Nanjing in 2001, this species has since been primarily focused on variety promotion. In the local environment, it exhibits specific growth characteristics: it is a thornless shrub with weak upright growth, often growing in a near-cradling form, which requires cultivation support. The plant remains relatively small, with light green leaves and white villi on the underside. Each plant typically produces 3–4 sprouting branches, with an average thickness of 1.2–1.5 cm. It also develops 10–12 lateral branches, each about 1.5–2.0 cm long, though some can extend up to 4 meters or more. In terms of phenological stages, the species usually starts with 2/3 to 3 buds, followed by 4/early to 4/middle buds. Flowering occurs from 4/lower to 5/upper, with fruits maturing between 5/medium and 6/middle. Some special early-maturing varieties can reach maturity in as little as 20 days. The fruits turn red when fully ripe, with an average length of 2.86 cm and a diameter of 1.91 cm. The fruit type index ranges from 1.4 to 1.5, indicating a medium-sized fruit. On average, each fruit weighs around 5.0 g, with the largest reaching up to 9.5 g. The ripe fruit offers a rich raspberry flavor, a juicy texture, and few, small seeds. The soluble solids content is between 8.5% and 10%, making it highly flavorful. During peak yield periods, individual plants can produce 3.5–4.0 kg of fruit. Under optimal growing conditions, the average yield per mu (approximately 667 square meters) reaches 700–800 kg. However, this species demonstrates limited adaptability in Nanjing and requires well-drained soil, proper fertilization, and consistent watering to thrive. With appropriate management, it can still be successfully cultivated and contribute to local agriculture.
