This kind of pig iron affects the spheroidizing treatment of the key elements Mn , P , S super high, which brings great disadvantages to the production of ductile iron piston rings. At present, it is very difficult to find the source of raw materials or synthetic pig iron that meets the requirements in China. It is not realistic to introduce raw materials. Therefore, when selecting raw materials, it should meet the foreign requirements as much as possible, and test the selected pig iron components: 40% to 4 2% C , 0 80% to 0 9% Si , 0 20% to 0 4% Mn , 0 04% ~ 0 06%P , S<0 026% . This kind of pig iron has the following characteristics compared with the pig iron required by foreign countries:

1 The amount of silicon is extremely high from 0 4% to 0 6% . Due to the use of intermediate frequency furnace smelting, although it will limit the recovery and utilization of the recycled material, it will not pose too much threat.

2 The amount of manganese is too high from 0 14% to 0 2% . The higher manganese content affects the control of the as-cast structure, and the subsequent ferritic annealing treatment can solve this difficulty. However, the appearance of excessive cementite will affect the pass rate of spheroidization and the dimensional control before and after heat treatment.

3 phosphorus content is acceptable. Even if the amount of phosphorus in the new iron used later is slightly higher (<0 07%) , it is not enough to affect the metallographic structure and mechanical properties. If the phosphorus content is too high, the phosphorus content of the casting will be >0 1% , which will produce phosphorus eutectic at the grain boundary, which will reduce the strength, toughness and plasticity.

The higher sulfur content will directly consume the amount of spheroidizing agent, especially the effect of dissolved sulfur on the spheroidization of graphite during solidification, which will directly affect the effect of spheroidization, reduce mechanical properties, and increase casting defects ( slag inclusion, pinhole, etc.) ......
